Disabling access to LiveWhale during an upgrade

How to disable access to LiveWhale during an upgrade.

This setting can be adjusted using the master LiveWhale configuration. (Please see “Configuring LiveWhale” for more information.)

Access to LiveWhale can be disabled or restricted during upgrades. This only affects access to the backend LiveWhale interface, and does not affect the normal operation of the public facing web site. Typically this setting will be manipulated by White Whale during an upgrade session and then restored when done, however clients may also wish to use it to perform their own changes or to review White Whale’s.

Open the master LiveWhale config (/livewhale/core/config.php) using an FTP client or via the command line.

The three options related to upgrade access are:

  • UPGRADE_ACCESS_DISABLED

Set this to true to disable access to LiveWhale during an upgrade.

  • UPGRADE_ACCESS_MESSAGE

This message will be displayed to LiveWhale users while access is restricted. A default message is provided, but it may be customized to a particular institution’s needs.

  • UPGRADE_ACCESS_USER

If a username is supplied here, only that login will be allowed access to LiveWhale while access is otherwise restricted. This allows an administrator to log in and test an upgrade before bringing it live for the entire userbase.
